Dear friends, I have written [this letter] as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. 2 Peter 3:1
My friend Sharon was dating a man and they were getting serious. He asked her where she saw herself in life on a scale of 1 to 10. Things for Sharon were good: good job, good house, good church, good friends, etc. She answered 7.5 or 8. She wanted a relationship hoping it might fill in the remaining 20%. He said, “Well, there’s risk of letting go of some of the good 80% to gain the additional 20%. That may be the point where you’re considering things as we move our relationship along. But Sharon, what if the scale is really 15 or 20? And you’re living life at 8? What if God’s got a whole other dimension to start showing you? A whole new scale you don’t even know about? Are you willing to explore this possibility together?” It was a matter of months before they were celebrating their wedding together.
Lord, teach me to expand my thinking, my horizon
To reach toward your perspective
So often we’re asking you to fill our 20%
When you want to give us 200%
Enlarge our heart, our thinking
To receive the blessings you have for each of us
