This is Part 3 in a series of 10 Reasons to Consider Fasting.  We continue with Reason #8.  See below for a list of all 10 reasons.

Corporate fasting works well when there is institutionalized oppression taking place.  God wants to know what His people are doing, not just “the people.”  Fasting together with other Christians is powerful and effective.  Christians love to call on 2 Chronicles 7:14 for prayer.  Prayer and fasting is even more powerful. Interesting that the verse starts off with a conditional phrase:  “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Fasting is also required for challenging deliverance situations.  Mark 9 tells the story of the disciples being familiar with praying in Jesus’ name and healing people and having demons come out of people.  They ran into a problem with one boy.  They had to refer up to Jesus, who cast out the demon and healed the boy.  We pick up the story at verse 28, “And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”  Jesus embraces fasting and gives us a specific reason for this.  Most of the people I know in deliverance ministry work fast regularly.

Lastly, there are physical benefits to fast.  Quite simply, it’s good for the body to go without food for a day, or sometimes more.  Physically, fasting helps rebalance one’s body’s pH level.  It’s like hitting the reset button.  Dr. Biodun Awosusi share his 10 Incredible Healing Benefits of Fasting with us on Yahoo.  Fasting detoxifies the body. It rests the digestive system.  Certain doctors see allergy symptoms improve.  Autoimmune disorders may heal.  Fasting improves insulin sensitivity by lowering blood sugar, which can help diabetes.  Experts say that fasting promotes weight loss.  However, I have not found it to be a lasting weight removal technique.  My weight tends to go back to normal after one day.  I don’t allow myself to stand on a scale the day of or the day after a fast, since it is specifically not about weight loss for me.
