Show Me the Goodness

The following is a Psalm 86 paraphrase

1       Listen Up and Help Me! I’m hurting

2.      I’m your Daughter—through adoption.  I’m trusting you

3.      Pleeeaase.  Be gracious to me

4       Make me happy—You said you’re the Lifter of My Soul

5       I’m trying to remember here:

You are good, forgiving and long to everyone who calls you

6       Listen to me.  Would you Listen to me!

7       I’m in real trouble.  You gotta help me

8       You’re the only one with the track record

9       Everyone knows it.  Eventually they’ll all line up to tell you

Even countries will pay their respects

10     You’ve been there, done it

You’re still there. You’re still doing it.  You’ve got an exclusive

11     Tell me again what to do.  Okay, I’m doing it.  Remind me that you love me

Yes, I love you too.  You know I respect you

12     Of course I’m thankful—for everything.  I’ll always be proud of you.

13     Yeah, you’ve been good to me.  You’ve been there for me,

Even during the tough times

14     But god, they’re out to get me!

They don’t care about you—at all

15     You’re so cool

In fact, you’re Awesome

16     Now, it’s my turn for your attention on this matter

Here’s what I need:  your grace and your strength.  You gotta save me!

17     Show me the goodness.  Everyone’s got to be able to t see it

Thanks for helping me, I feel better.

Here’s the Original Words of King David

Psalm 86

1.      Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy

2      Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.  You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.

3       Have Mercy on me O Lord, for I call to you all day long.

4       Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord,  I lift up my soul

5       You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you

6       Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy

7       In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.

8       Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours

9       All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord;

They will bring glory to your name.

10     For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you along are God.  Teach me your ways,

11     O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name

12     I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.

13     For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

14     The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seek my life  14

Men without regard for you.

15     But you, O LORD, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger,

Abounding in love and faithfulness.

16     Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant.

17     Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and  be put to shame, for you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Prayers for the Parched: Deliver Me

Deliver Me from Everything In Me that May Hide Your Light

Deliver Me from Everything In Me that May Hide Your Light

Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.  Psalm 79:9

Almighty God, you alone are good and holy

Purify my life and make me a brave disciple

I do not ask you to keep me safe in my comfort zone, but to keep me loyal so I may serve Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ was temped in every way but he remained faithful to you

God, deliver me from a lack of reverence for truth and beauty

from a calculating or sentimental mind

from going along with mean and ugly things

God, deliver me from cowardice that does not face truth

from laziness content with half-truths

or arrogance that think I know it all

God, deliver me from artificial life and worship

fromm all that is hollow or insincere

from trite ideals and cheap pleasure

from mistaking hard vulgarity for humor

God deliver me from being dull, pompous, or rude

from putting down my neighbors

from cynicism about others

God deliver me from intolerance or cruel indifference

from being satisfied with things as they are

from failing to share your indignation about injustice

God, deliver me from selfishness, self-indulgence, or self-pity

from token concern for the poor, for lonely or loveless people

from confusing faith with good feeling,

or love with wanting to be loved

God deliver me from everything in me that may hide your light

Adapted from Prayer of Confession in a church bulletin 1998

Thank God for churches that still print church bulletins.  A stray prayer or lyrics to a hymn or note made from a sermon may catch my eye from a bulletin stuck in my Bible years ago. These stray truths still bless.

Prayers for the Parched: Praying for Supernatural Abundant Grace

Waterfalls Give Us a Picture of Supernatural Abundant Grace

Waterfalls Give Us a Picture of Supernatural Abundant Grace

One of our dear intercessors for the Silicon Valley Healing Rooms shared this insight as a suggestion before one our Open Hours.  The Prayer Team loved it for themselves, and found several visitors for whom it was very helpful and assuring.

The intercessor said that a dear sister who communed with God regularly in prayer, was told by our Lord Jesus that she could ask Him each day for His Supernatural Abundant Grace to be poured out on her for that day.  She said it changed her life.  Our intercessor started praying this prayer each day before she got out of bed in the morning and she says it has changed her life too.

Many times, as people come to the Healing Rooms going through a difficult season, I do not know what to say to comfort them in their current circumstances.  Then I remember that it is not my job to know anything or fix anything. The job of the Prayer Team members is to take the prayer needs to God’s Throne Room and ask the Holy Spirit to come in His role as Comforter.  He knows best how to comfort each precious lamb that comes for prayer.

I love being able to offer this prayer for our Lord’s “Supernatural Abundant Grace” to people who come to our Healing Rooms in deep anguish.  We invite them to ask for this grace directly each day of Jesus in prayer, and as often as needed throughout the day.  His grace changes lives.

God's Gifts Come in All Shapes and Sizes

God’s Gifts Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house “Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see If I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”  Malachi 3:10

I praise you for being a giving God!

Malachi 3:10 says that you will open the windows of heaven for us and pour out a blessing

You know how to teach

You know how much I can handle

Prayers for the Parched: Expanding our Faith

God Will Not Be Shaken

God Will Not Be Shaken

I have set the LORD always before me.  Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Psalm 16:8

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.  When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”  Luke 11:1

In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, events of our carefully constructed worlds shattered.  Our ways of loving, praying, hoping, giving assurance and exercising tolerance don’t seem to be sufficient under the new reality of living with terrorism.

This is the time to press in toward God.  We need to expand our thinking, and expand our understanding of God’s grace.  We’re at a new level of needs:  personal, communal, and national.  Our God is big enough to meet these needs.  His promises hold me even now.  It’s time to draw on God’s limitless and untapped strength and wisdom to meet our evolving personal and word situations.  God promises to guide us in all aspects of our lives.  He is not shaken off his throne by these events, even if we are shaken.

Once we grasp what God shows us and we learn new navigation skills, insights, and truths, our hearts must consent to the new revelation.  Then it’s time to recommit our lives to living out these principles God will reveal more of himself to us to move the ever changing needs of the moment.

God, We need you more than ever

As the world we know crumbles around us

Reveal to us new levels of your grace and truth to meet the new reality we live in

Kindle our courage

Give us your heart and character to handle everything that’s coming our way

Help us redefine our faith

Lord, these events humble us and make us pause and realize that we need your diving strength and wisdom to figure out how to move forward

Teach us afresh, at this new place,

how to pray

how to love even our enemies

how to hope

how to give

how to comfort

how to tolerate

how to assure one another

Show us how to overcome our fears with confidence in you

Expand our faith to meet the shock waves of reality.

Prayers for the Parched: Recognizing the Riches

God's Riches are in His Wildflowers

God’s Riches are in His Wildflowers

We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.  2 Thessalonians 1:3

Psalm 50:14  Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High  Psalm 50:14

Forgive me for my ungratefulness

You have given me so much

And here I am asking you for more

Without fully appreciating the fullness of what I have in Christ

Without fully recognizing the riches in my current stage of life

Without enjoying all t he gifts of this days’ blessings

Open my eyes to see what I have

More importantly, let me see you in all of my life

You are present

Open my heart to receive

You are the decorator who adds that special touch to the décor of m y life

You are at work restoring all the pieces of the past

You are making all things new

You go before me to be there when I arrive at each stage of life

I will not wait for the final result to say thank you

In faith and by choice I say thank you now

For all that you are doing

For all that you have done in my life

Whether I recognize it or not

And for all that you have promised you will do in my life

Prayers for the Parched: Ready and Steady

Learning to Balance in the Natural and Supernatural for the Challenges of Life

Learning to Balance in the Natural and Supernatural for the Challenges of Life

Ready & Steady

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind. 1 Peter 5:2

Ready us and steady us

For the tasks at hand.

Note:  Sometimes it’s the simplest of prayers that stick with us.

I have loved and used this prayer often before entering into a meeting room or any kind.

One word prayers count.  “Help!” is a valid prayer.

Somehow I like the thought of being “Ready and Steady” for the tasks at hand for each day.

Prayers for the Parched: Your Faithfulness

God Fulfills All His Promises Because He is a Faithful God

God Fulfills All His Promises Because He is a Faithful God

For He who promised it is faithful.  Hebrews 10:23

Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.  Joshua 23:14

I worship you for being faithful

“It” in Hebrews 10:23 is the hope we possess in God’s promises.  The Bible is filled with promises.  Most people have a promise they feel God included in the Bible just for them.  It’s like a personal commitment from God.  This specific of a promise is indeed something God intends to fulfill.

The following are three of my favorite commitments from God:

“Weeping lasts for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”  Psalm 30:5

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while (and here God andI differ on what a little while is), will himself will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”  1 Peter 5:10 (italics are mine)

“I waited (forever) for the Lord, and he (finally) turned to me and heard my cry.”  Psalm 40:1 (italics are mine)

Prayers for the Parched: Favor at Work

Lord, Give Favor to Your Children in the Workplace

Lord, Give Favor to Your Children in the Workplace

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28

Observe what the LORD your God requires:  Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.  1 Kings 2:3

I wrote this for my brother who was going through some political battles in his work place at the time.  Even in praying it, I had confidence that God was answering this for him.  God is honored when we tand up for his principles in the work place.  I firmy believe that many companies are blessed simply because they hae praying Christians there whom God is blessing.  Instead of mere coincidence, let us put on our charge to pray for one another in our work environments.

Give my brother lots of favor

No matter what he says, or what he does, may people look upon him with favor and wisdom and want to be around him and do business with him

May you bring him success in all his efforts

Please make good on any of his mistakes or failures as you promise to do for those that love you

Put him on the specific planes you want him on, sitting in the seat you have for hi for every flight

May there be room for his legs

Keep his back from hurting because of these flights

Keep his health strong throughout his travels

Bless every conversation he has on these flights, and may these conversations bring you glory

I pray he would remember to pray in his spare and waiting moments so his relationship with you would continue to grow

Give him good books to read

Keep his mind pure in thought

Put him in every meeting he needs to be in

Bring people to these meetings for your purposes whether to see my brother in action, or to have a future business contact, or to plant a seed for the kingdom

Give him your supernatural peace about his career

May he know that you are training him with the exact set of business skills he needs for your future plans for his life

May the opportunities you have for him become available to him in your perfect timing

Prayers for the Parched: New Year’s Declarations

His mercies are Fresh Every Morning. It's a New Year to Live, Making Good with God's Gift of Time to Us

His mercies are Fresh Every Morning. It’s a New Year to Live, Making Good with God’s Gift of Time to Us

Sustain me according to your promises, and I will live; do not let my hope be dashed.  Psalm 119:116

New Year’s is a time to set goals and make declarations about our lives in the natural and in the spiritual realm.  These are a few general declarations that may fit.  Create your own in prayer with God and declare them over yourself throughout the year.  Words create atmosphere.  Since we are made in the likeness of God, our words are designed to create and bless. The power of life and death are in the tongue.  This year, declare God’s good purposes over your life and see them unfold.

I will understand God’s love and operate in it

I will be a loving person

Flowing in God’s love will draw people to God

I take good care of my body

I look good, and I feel good

I pray for the fruits of the spirit to be evident in my life

I hear God’s voice

I love God

I love to pray

I am disciplined in studying God’s word

I am disciplined in writing God’s word

My study time is used wisely

My writing time is used wisely

I have abundant riches to give for kingdom purposes

At all times I give God my worries and walk in peace

I am slow to speak, quick to hear, slow to anger

I am obedient and no rebellion operated in me

My words will give God honor, glory and praise—only
